Palm oil is a vegetable oil, so bottles labelled “vegetable oil” or “cooking oil” can be palm olein. Check the ingredients on the label if you need a specific oil. For coconuts, see the Coconut category.

How to Store Palm Oil

  • Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from the stove and direct sunlight

  • Use a clean, dry ladle or pump when you repack oil from a big container

  • Check the best-before date on the label, or ask the seller for the production date

  • Old oil goes rancid: throw it away if it smells sour or like paint

  • After frying, strain the oil and keep it covered. Throw it away when it turns dark, thick or foamy, or smokes at a low heat

Where Palm Oil Comes From

Much of the palm oil sold in the Philippines is imported, mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia. Oil palm is also grown locally, mostly in Mindanao, where Agusan del Sur is one of the biggest growing areas, along with provinces such as Sultan Kudarat, Bukidnon and the Davao provinces, and in Palawan. Local mills press the fruit into crude palm oil, which refineries turn into palm olein.

Who Buys Palm Oil in the Philippines

Carinderias and fried-food stalls buying by the container. Bakeries and snack makers frying banana chips, chicharon and other snacks. Restaurants and caterers. Resellers and sari-sari stores repacking oil into smaller bottles and bags. Soap makers buying palm and palm kernel oil.

Each seller sets their own price and pack sizes, and arranges pickup or delivery with you directly through the platform chat.
